So much of what he represented initially coming on to the scene is no longer remotely novel (playing Uncle Tom for a rap purchasing public that was actually majority white) and there's no longer a baby-mama back-story he can whine about to Diane Sawyer so he has to turn to this for faux-controversy and sales.

As for "singing with Elton John", Elton only cares about a paycheck, proven by his performance at Rush Limbaugh's wedding, the height of shamelessness, so that PR maneuver at whatever awards ceremony with their duet never meant ****.

Eminem gets accused of being homophobic ALL THE TIME. He's not, though. He has denied it on several occasions and is close friends with openly gay musician Elton John. He told Anderson Cooper in an interview that he did not really have a problem with anyone and did not hate gays. The usage of supposedly "homophobic" lyrics in his songs is due to the fact that they were used so strongly and commonly in his upbringing, without necessarily being used in the right context.

Yes, the lyrics in "Rap God" are, unquestionably, homophobic. There's no denying this. Homosexuals should absolutely have the right to be offended by this song, if they are truly offended by it. I'm also of the belief that Eminem (and his alter ego Slim Shady) and Marshall Mathers are not the same in terms of beliefs and thoughts. Fair game if you believe they are one and the same, but I believe Marshall when he says that Eminem is an act.

I think the one thing we can all agree on is this: Marshall Mathers probably should not be trying to shock and offend people like this in his 40s, especially when he's unable to do so quite like he used to. My biggest complaint with Eminem nowadays is that he relies on this offending and shock value too much. It's why I haven't really been able to get into Eminem's work since The Eminem Show, give or take a few songs. He can still be a fantastic rapper when he wants to be (see: "Beautiful"), but those glimpses are growing fewer and farther between. Believe me, I'm right there with some of you on that one. Marshall Mathers is now 41 years old, and his schtick started to grow tired when he was 32. It's time to let the shock and offend tactic go, Marshall. Just let it go. It may be all you have, but if this is all you have, then you should either completely change tactics or retire and be a true father to your daughter.
