Right?! That's why Rihanna ALWAYS inspires me so much everyday. Her rise to fame was very difficult, switching countries and getting noticed was hard. Her perseverance and work ethic is unmatched. She has the most inspirational life story.

anyways, i thought the same. I really didnt think people would give a damn about katy after thinking of you flopped. i thought she was done and dusted and i was fine with that.
I didn't think Rihanna could smash after SOS and Unfaithful. Then Umbrella came and history from there.
I definitely pegged Katy as a one hit wonder. I didn't even wanna hear ha Kissed A Girl song. Because I hate overnight sensations (I.e. Gagnam Style, Call Me Maybe) But, she became a ****ing legend.

Like back when Pon de Replay and S.O.S blew up I didn't understand her appeal. She was so basic to me. Even in the GGGB days I was indifferent towards her. It was only during Rated R that I saw her potential and I stanned. I honetly never expected her to be as big as she is tbh.

Rihanna's was definitely a surprise -- serious one hit wonder teas when she started. But, her success was a gradual build up so you had time to get used to her becoming a fixture in music. Gaga's huge start was also shocking. Adele and the 21 era was a complete blind side tho. No one could have seen that coming -- especially considering the dominant sound of the time period of its release. Amazing and absolutely unbelievable. She's so deserving tho.
Nothing really all that surprising about Katy or Taylor's success to me. Young, white, pretty that appeal to young girls -- pretty standard success formula.
Well considering I started to stan for Adele when RITD was already popular I guess I wasn't too surprised. I do see how Adele would be the most surprising though. Least mainstream and her sale numbers are freaking crazy

Her style was extremely polarizing at that point, smack dead in the middle of the EDM era. At the moment it doesn't seem like a surprise, but she took the industry by storm, literally out of nowhere. I understand where you're coming from though.
