Apparently, Nicole Scherzinger has been too busy with her U.K. "X Factor" duties to keep up with the news. The U.K. 'X Factor' judge said she 'didn't know the story' of the Pakastani girl shot by a Taliban member for promoting female education. Malala was being honored that night.
During an awkward interview on the red carpet before the Pride of Britain wards, the 35-year-old former Pussycat Doll stumbled over an interviewer's question about 16-year-old Malala Yousafzai, who was honored at the event.
Yousafzai, an outspoken advocate of education for women who was shot by a Taliban agent in 2012, was a favorite for this year's Nobel Peace Prize. When a reporter asked what Scherzinger thought about the young woman's courage, the singer faltered.
"Malala? I don't know that story that well, but is she still …" Scherzinger asked, trailing off. The reporter quickly filled her in on Yousafzai's background, and the singer recovered.
"Amazing. She's a righteous, empowering, powerful woman, and God bless her," Scherzinger said.
Later during the ceremony, David Beckham presented the Teenager of Courage Award to Yousafzai at a different location. Footage of him giving her the award was shown during the event.
At least she sorta admitted she had no clue about it before commenting on it. Some celebrities would embarrass themselves further by trying to pretend they completely knew what they were being questioned about!
Is it just me, or did she sound and look as if she was drugged?
She barely seemed lucid.
If you think that's strange, watch this. She turns from a sex siren during the performance to a child with a 12-year-old girl's voice in the interview after it.
That was kind of painful to watch. I can see if someone just randomly threw that question at her with no context at an event completely unrelated, but, considering the event, it's really inexcusable.
