A lot of people seem to think IKYWT is about John Mayer and that Treacherous is about Jake. Or they want to make it seem like they are both about John, but we know that RED was written about a relationship from beginning to End. She starts with State of Grace and Ends with Begin Again (A song about finally moving on from that relationship) So why would she randomly throw in two songs about John Mayer and include a relationship that has long been over?
It doesn’t seem to make sense. She even stated in an interview that media was saying certain songs were about so and so and she said “That was so last album” Now if we are going to take Holy Ground as being about Joe Jonas, then the only other relationship that could be “so last album” is John Mayer.

‘Treacherous’ was about a person that I knew, from the minute I saw him, that it would end in fiery, burning wreckage. There’s something about that magnetic draw that doesn’t really let up. You walk towards it anyway. I wrote ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’ about the same person. That’s the before and after: ‘Treacherous’ is the before. ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’ is the after. ‘Treacherous’ is a song that I’m really proud of. It kind of covers ground that I haven’t covered before, that feeling of, even if it’s ill-fated, you want to pursue it to the very end. Even if we’re going down, I want in.

Honestly though we have no idea about Taylor’s relationship with Jake. the only reason we knew they were even in one was b/c of the photo shoot. We have no idea how their relationship was, but if you look at all her songs about him and The moment I knew. he hurt her deeply. Saying I knew you were trouble doesn’t necessarily mean he’s a bad guy that is mean and has a bad rep. it just means he would be trouble for her. Someone that could make her do anything because she’s so caught up in him. Taylor seemed to fall fast for Jake. Being on the cover of US weekly, spending Thanksgiving with his family…. There were reports of her thinking he was the one. So yes, if she did have that mentality then he was trouble!
Also from other sources Taylor has said that Jake was super controlling and that he didn’t even want to be seen together and they would take back doors and stuff. If Taylor is reflecting on IKYWT being about AFTER the relationship then it makes sense it’s about Jake. Because the moment you see John Mayer you know he is trouble! It wouldn’t take an entire relationship to figure that one out. Taylor saying Jake is trouble again just could mean that oh no, this guy, he’s going to be my downfall. He could tell me to go do this and I would because I’m so wrapped up in him. That’s how girls can be. It doesn’t mean he had some bad rep or he cheats on people, it just means that for her, he was her downfall. And clearly he was. Let’s just pretend IKYWT and Treacherous are about John, we still have an entire album of songs about Jake. NO OTHER relationship has gotten an entire album. 3-4 songs per album maybe, but not an entire album. This guy did it for her. He crushed her. He made her lose herself, just like in All Too Well when she says “I’d like to be my old self again but I’m still trying to find it.”
When you think someone is your soul mate, your match you sometimes don’t start to see what that relationship did, how it changed you. And looking back I think she finally realized it. That this guy, yes would be her downfall. She fell fast and she fell hard. and that my friends is trouble!!
