Rest in peace to the animal handler. Prayers for his family.
I also agree. Many animals don't belong in enclosures for entertainment purposes, but zoos tend to have a better approach for the good of the animal itself. Especially with elephants on the verge of being extinct in the wild. So, it's not really doing danger for them when they have a higher risk of being killed in their natural habitat right now.
Also elephants are very family oriented. In the wild they will mourn and actually have a burial ceremony and grief with other pachyderm as a human would. It's pretty amazing, probably one of the most intelligent species on this earth.
There's been research where animal researchers stayed with a Mama elephant who lost a baby and she stayed beside the corpse and grieved and eventually died of a broken heart (death from grievance) due to starvation and depression. Other pachyderm tried to stay close and force her to eat and drink, but she refused.
I just love these topics tbh.
