It would have never been a success. Not in any world. The concept was flawed from the start. It was a sequel to a movie that opened with 14 million (4-day weekend) and only grossed 26 million overall. Like in what world is the second one going to turn into a massive blockbuster? Did people seriously think that a 5 minute Lady Gaga cameo was going to suddenly turn this into a massive success? Like... I saw it yesterday. It was staggeringly awful. I know it's meant to be a spoof, but it simply isn't funny. On the plus side, GaGa was good in it.

the first part made like 30M in total. So 6M is not bad at all when it started playing YESTERDAY in the US.

It's $20m. Not a blockbuster, but not low budget. Double the first film (which made $44m and had good reviews). And the $6m is for the whole weekend, not a day. The first film did $3m in one day, $14m entire weekend.

Also regardless of what anyone says Monsters have been hyping this up, she has been the main focus of promotion and marketing (plus Sofia, but she has a hit TV show so it's not a complete fail for her right now like others on the bill). Just like Monsters said Britney was billed for Smurfs to pull people in, it's more for Gaga since she was focused on in tv spots and entertainment night shows + the music tie-in.

Machete Kills and Battleship occupy different voids in film. The creators of Battleship thought it was going to be a box office blockbuster and be the next global franchise. No one expected that from Machete Kills.

Gaga was a major part of the promo for this movie, but so was Sofia Vergara, Charlie Sheen, etc. So it's obviously not her fault it flopped. She was a part of the movie though, so just like Rihanna with Battleship, y'all are gonna have to accept the flop and move on.

I don't tend to cosign with Katy fans, but I'll make any exception for this post.
