Amazing. He's standing up for himself and every other homosexual by doing this. Not only is he out of the closet (which, considering his career and fame, already very difficult), but he's also taking on the image of pride to the ring with him. Nothing but the utmost respect and admiration for him.

The tired argument of him "reinforcing stereotypes" is that it's on the minority to change who they are so that they don't somehow play into prejudiced ideas leveled at them by the majority. This is not the case. The onus is on the majority to stop seeing minorities as stereotypes and start seeing them as actual people and nothing less.

I admire his intentions.

I agree with this but I think baby steps is better starting out in a sport like this.

I hope he wins and I am rooting for him.

Good for him, but I cannot get on board with those of you saying he's hot.

I personally think it would do a lot more for gay rights if he simply entered the ring as himself - an out gay man who is an excellent boxer and athlete competing for the title. That's it. He's already out of the closet (an amazing thing for him to do) and the best way for him to represent gay men is by representing himself as an individual.

I don't want to pick at him for doing this because I like his intentions. If he honestly loves that outfit and thinks its fabulous then I think he should wear it. But I don't think he should wear it if representing gay men is his objective. In all honesty I just don't want him to get jeered at when he enters the ring because I would not want for him to be exposed to that ugly negativity during such an important moment.

Sadly the gay pride outfit didnt inspire him to victory. He was knocked out in 7th round and pretty much outclassed the whole fight apparently. Mexicos Orlando salido therefore wins the WBO featherweight title.

Oh well he still made history. As much as I think the outfit was counter productive in many ways I still respect him for being so open about his sexuality in the most macho sport of all. Thats huge.

Are you familiar with the pride flags colors and their meanings? Pink was originally in the gay flag and was the color that represented "sexuality".

So that color has meaning in the gay community aside from being a "feminine" color that the flamboyant gays like to use.

He could just like pink, he could just be doing it out of shock factor as a "**** you" to the macho sport, or he could know something about gay culture. Jumping to such negative conclusions is ridiculous though.

yes thanks I dont need educating on Gay culture. Folk like you need to grasp the fact that gay people can have differing opinions on how we are represented. we dont all have to tow the pink line and think as one. i dont relate to the color pink and I dont think it does the gay cause any favors on a broader level. It promotes the notion of weakness and femininity.

But we can all have differing opinions on whether it helps or hinders the gay cause in the general publics eyes. I happen to think the color pink keeps us locked in a negative stereotype that stops us advancing in 2013. I mean, if youre happy for straight people to keep associating us with the ultimate girls color then fine but Im actually not.

Go read at a sports site and see all the homophobic jokes being made about his outfit. he's just gifted them more chance to ridicule gays. If he'd wore a normal outfit they may actually be remarking about the fight. Counter productive.
