and it's worth mentioning, i'm quite certain an HIV cure is in existence... or something a lot more potent than the 13 pill regimen the average HIV patient is on. It's just not for the consumption of the general public. It's for the Magic Johnson's of the world, who can pay for it.

Except, it's not only pharmaceutical companies who are looking for cures. There's research scientists at universities and other institutions who would love to find a cure. You think if they found a cure, they'd pass up on a Nobel Prize or the scientific legacy they'll have?

There's cures for all types of cancers and diseases, but they'll never be available for use. Cancer is big business. Every couple of months universities / scientists will come out and feed the public what they want to hear 'we've had a huge break through, we're another step closer to a cure' everyone gets delighted, funding increases and the process repeats. Governments also rely on it for population control, it's a depressing thought but its true. People who donate to cancer research are just wasting there money. Donate to organisations that look after cancer patients, at least that way your donation will actually make a difference

But yes, I think they will find a cure for HIV, seeing as they've selectively cured it effectively a couple of times. The problem (well, it's actually a good thing) is that all cures have to go through years and years of test trials before they come to light so when we hear news stories about a new cure, it means something worked once in a research lab. The cure then goes through at least 7 years of clinical trials where it has to be proven safe for human consumption, consistently effective, etc.

Yes! Very promising breakthroughs have been made recently, including actually cured patients.

Nope there's too many different strains of it and it keeps mutating but i think it's more likely they'll have a vaccine to prevent certain types of it.

There exist only two "strains" of HIV, one of which is largely confined to Africa, and neither is known to have mutated significantly since they were first detected in humans.

They have a way to suppress the virus the point where it can't even be passed during unprotected sex.

To get rid of the virus entirely is another story though. It seems that most viruses (herpes, HPV etc) are ****ers that stick around for good whether they are active or not.
