Melanie McCabe’s shock exit from The X Factor at the judges’ houses stage has once again caused outrage among viewers still coming to terms with the departure of Joseph Whelan.
The Irish singer – who had been making her fourth attempt to reach the live finals – sung her last on the show last night after being rejected yet again in favour of teenager Hannah Barrett.
And her exit sparked a huge reaction on Twitter, with viewers taking to the site in their thousands to register their anger at the decision.
‘Nicole really is making some bad choices, sending Melanie home and putting Hannah through,’ tweeted one viewer, while another added: ‘Gutted that Melanie didn’t get through. She is absolutely amazing.’
Another took their annoyance even further, declaring: ‘Refuse to watch X-Factor UK ever again because of @NicoleScherzy absolutely ridiculous. Melanie deserves it so much.’
And another fan said: ‘Grrr don’t get it!!! Melanie sent home and Abi put through??!!! Thinks they need their ears cleaning!!’
McCabe failed to make it through despite reducing both Nicole and Louis to tears earlier in the series.
Scherzinger told her: ‘You’ve got the voice, the range, the spirit, the attitude,’ adding: ‘You’re still so young. I don’t want you to give up because you have something so special but we’re not quite there yet.’
Barrett eventually joined Abi Alton and Tamera Foster in making it through to the live heats in Scherzinger’s category.
Sunday’s show also saw groups Miss Dynamix, Kingsland Road and Rough Copy reach the finals.

the backlash was inevitable since they did hype poor melanie up to the heavens, but honestly it is nicole's decision at the end of the day. this is just another gamu situation - they are known to do anything for the ratings
Melanie McCabe reveals she was encouraged to audition and was told "This is her year"
Quote:
IRISH X Factor star Melanie McCabe revealed she was encouraged to share her 'sob story' by show producers.
The 20-year-old singer from Santry was axed by mentor Nicole Scherzinger in Antigua on last night's episode.
The Dubliner has famously auditioned four times over the years.
Melanie sang for producers prior to her performance for the judges and decided not to go ahead with participation on the show. However, show bosses immediately got in touch with her telling her this would be "her year".
"I had made the decision not to go ahead and I called them to say it. Then a few minutes later, my phone was buzzing.
"Producers got in touch telling me saying, 'It'd be worth your while'.
In the early stages of applying, she explained that bosses enquire about any tragedies you've experienced.
"They ask you if there's anything bad that's happened to you in the last few years," she told Colm Hayes on RTE 2FM.
"I filled out what I felt I was currently going through, which was losing my house.
"People are very quick to judge when you're on a show like this."

Music mogul Louis Walsh added that he did his best to encourage Nicole to take Melanie through to the live shows.
"If I was in charge of the girls, I would have taken Melanie through.
"I think she [Nicole] picked the three that she believed in most, I was doing my best behind the scenes."
And he's encouraged Melanie to pursue a singing career in life after X Factor.
"I think she's always had it and I love her attitude," he added.
"She should never do X Factor again, I don't even know how she watches it!"
Sometimes I feel Simon doesn't know jack ****. Maybe he does but these are real people we're dealing with and Syco treats these people like puppets. I get that its a tv show and ratings count but to put somebody bland like Abi through to the lives and have Melanie walk... That's very mean, considering it's her fourth attempt! Abi can always come back.
I don't blame Nicole... It's Syco and the producers I blame.
