But the Kanto birds are roaming Kalos so I think the rumor of them taking that spot with the respective Megas is probably true.
If you think of it it's smarter for your mega pokemon to be a pokemon thats not already too powerful. It's better to have mega absol/mawile/ampharos in comparison to mewtwo or garchomp because it would keep your team balanced.

It all depends. With the type changes and such you can use Mega evos really creatively tbh
