Mostly because it was the first Pokémon game where they really took a risk with not including pre-gen 5 Pokémon.
They also praised its story being deeper than before deeper than before

By video game standards anything above 85 is amazing. I was hoping for that 90 score but most reviewers still want Pokemon to give a full deep story like other JRPGs and have a really complex battling system (they never do competitive battling). But Pokemon still slays with critical acclaim and sales despite what some people might say.

It's just a bit frustrating that Zelda easily gets those rates and Pokémon doesn't.
