Often times, I have difficulty understanding the British accent, especially the deep country ones (Cockney?). Is it just as hard for the British people to understand the American accent or is it about the same or easier?
Better Question: Which English accent is easier to understand, British or American?
Depends, me and some of my friends had a conversation with someone from Texas before and we couldn't understand a word he was saying. It's usually the southern states since they have the thicker accents.
Similar to how people view British accents I guess.
I only find it hard trying to decipher the country-ish accents, but I also find accents like the ones in Beautiful Creatures (South Carolina/Texas) really intolerable
I don't think so. Some of the terms we use confuse them and visce versa with us.Other than that, we both speak the same language so it can't be that hard to understand.
American accents are more vast than British accents (mostly due to landmass and diversity), but on the whole I think it would be easier for the British to understand the typical American accent because words are usually pronounced slower.
I mean, even I have difficulty understanding the Southern drawl but I find it easier than the British accent. I always feel like there is an air bubble in the back of the Brits' throat that just emphasizes all the vowels.
American English is not difficult to understand, and I can see why people might have that trouble when one speaks with a British accent, or even received pronunciation for that matter.
