Pete Wentz Says He Wishes He Was Gay

Pete Wentz has long played with the rules of gender. The Fall Out Boy bassist is the certified poster boy for guyliner, wears women's jeans and often makes out with his male bandmates on stage. While such acts prompt confusion around Wentz's sexual orientation -- despite having a longtime girlfriend, Ashlee Simpson -- he says it's all nothing more than an attempt to confront homophobia.

"I would never come out and say I'm gay, because I'm not gay," Wentz told NPR's 'All Things Considered.' "There's part of me that kind of wishes I was gay, and I think that comes from anybody constantly wishing they were in the minority and constantly wants to be fighting everybody off."

Wentz cites gender-bending rockers like David Bowie and Marilyn Manson as inspiration for his own playful ways. "My whole point is I think there's something in art where you should be making people feel uncomfortable," he said.

i have stuck by ashlees side since before her first album came out, since her reality show. and when i watched the show it spoke to me the lyrics in her music amazed me! they were so deep and creative i couldnt come up with anything like that! but this song... its not her. her music used to speak to me. im sorry but this is the opposite of where she began. she prides herself in being different but this sounds banal and just like everyone else! shes throwing away the meaningful essence of music and taking the easy route and getting a techno beat with crappy lyrics. your not singing your heart out in this song like you where in "Pieces of Me" where did that ashlee go??? where did the ashlee simpson, a girl that differed from the crowd, stood up for herself, and expressed herself in singing and rockin her own way, dancing to her own beat, go??? i love you ashlee but this isnt who you are, this is you giving up your identity and giving in to everyone. in your own words "you just givin it all away"

I used to watch her show,it rocked and I liked how she was the exact opposite of her sis.I liked when she had the black hair,best Ashlee simpson hair style.Lately though I noticed too she's changed alot,I still support her but I miss the old Ashlee.

Note to Ashlee: You can update your sound and still be relevant without completely changing your entire sound and who you are.

I mean look at Aerosmith. They worked with a rap group (Run DMC) on the Walk This Way remake but it was still a rock song with strong guitars. Even Aerosmith's softer songs have strong rock guitar sounds. They changed but they didn't completely abandon what they are.

Ashlee Goes "Surreal" in new music video:

Ashlee Simpson spent yesterday (Dec. 6) shooting the video for "Out of My Head (Ay Ya Ya)," the first single from her third studio album. The as-yet-untitled set is due in March via Geffen. Asked to describe the video, Simpson tells Billboard.com, "One of my favorite artists is Salvador Dali. You'll see a little bit of that surrealism in it. There's a bit of 'Being John Malkovich' in there too. It's a little out there," she says with a laugh.

"Out of My Head (Ay Ya Ya)" goes to iTunes and other leading digital retailers on Tuesday. Like a good percentage of the new album, it was produced by Timbaland, who tapped into Simpson's love of '80s music when crafting the material. "There's definitely influences here and there from it, but it's definitely not a full-on '80s record," Simpson says. "There's a pop/rock element as well," she notes, pointing to songs like "Never Dream Alone" and the sassy "Rulebreaker." Elsewhere, "Murder" will feature a rap from Gym Class Heroes member Travis McCoy.

"I've never gone into a room and worked with somebody who puts a beat on and you start going," says Simpson, who also worked in the studio with Kenna and the Neptunes' Chad Hugo. "It felt like somewhere to go with the record where I'd never been." Simpson plans to decide the album title over the holiday break, but is already looking toward her return to the live stage. "I want to do like a smaller club tour first," she says. "Probably around February, we'll be back."
