If the universe is unending, why have we never received signs of aliens? I mean if the universe is infinite, every kind of alien would exist in it, including aliens that can contact us.

Imagine if humans and literally any other life form that ever posed a threat to humanity's superiority over all of creation could have lived in harmony on the same planet.

Wait, that never happened in the past because humans are aggressive and brutal and relentless and don't mess around.

I'm not sure I follow that logic? Yeah, the universe is infinite, and therefore the potential for aliens intelligent enough to contact us exists, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they have existed or do exist. And if they do exist, who's to say they haven't already tried to communicate with us? And if they have, how would we even begin how to decipher any alien messages? And how would we respond?

It took millions of years for mankind to evolve to our intelligence level, so presumably it would take even longer for more intelligent life to develop elsewhere in the universe, meaning we'd need to look further and further away to older and older places in the universe in order to find planets old enough and suitable enough to be able to facilitate that kind of evolution.

If any life including things as small as a single-cell bacteria exist outside of earth then those would be considered aliens.

Is there life out there that is as/more intelligent than us?

But those life forms may have left their original home planets and moved to younger planets as their old ones began to become useless and uninhabitable.

Time is the biggest factor here though I think. If we look back on human history and compare it to Earth's age, and on a far bigger scale to the age of our galaxy itself (not even speaking of the countess other galaxies there are), we have existed for merely a second so far. Blink an eye, and the universe had missed it all up to this point. If there are/were intelligent life forms out there, then it's rather unlikely that there is one/are some that is/are currently existing as we are and are reaching out to other planets right now. They could either be long gone, or their future home planet hasn't even been birthed yet.

The point I was making was more implicit tbh. If it should ever happen that aliens found us and it turned out they are lightyears ahead of us, we all have to hope they have risen above the attitude of merciless self-preservation and brutal submission of other life forms that we find ourselves with.

I hadn't considered that. Still, finding a planet where a hypothetical race originated from/once lived would still be an enormous feat even if we didn't actually encounter any actual aliens there. You're right though, the possibilities are literally endless.

In extraterrestrial life forms, yes. The human race has boundaries as to how far we are able to explore the universe, therefore it is possible that some could be in hiding.

There are 17 billion-earth like planets in the milky way galaxy alone but the chances of finding INHABITED earth-like planets are practically zero. The problem lies not on those planets' capacity to sustain life but to start life. The long-term stable conditions favorable for the development and evolution of life are extremely rare.

The universe may be infinite but the fact remains constant all throughout. According to astrophysics the chances of life occuring on earth is less than 1 in 4 trillion. Life is either a result of an accident or a miracle. It's virtually impossible to happen.

That's interesting, I didn't know it was THAT miniscule.

It doesn't change my belief that there certainly is intelligent life on some planet or planets somewhere in whatever galaxy, or at some point in the past at least used to be/at some point in the future is going to be, but it reinforces me in believing that humanity is never ever going to encounter alien life in the universe. It's too unlikely simply because of the huge distances alone, let alone that 1 in 4 trillion probability coming into play as well.
