What makes Atlanta seem MUCH bigger than Charlotte is the Metropolitan Area in General, and with that being said Charlotte's Metropolitan area only has HALF the counties ATL has in their metropolitan area. I suspect this has to do with how each Strate's Department of Transportation builds their roads.I'm sure Interstate 285 in Georgia is MUCH BIGGER than Interstate 485 in North Carolina. If only 485 went into Cabarrus,Iredell,Gaston, and maybe Union will we have a fairer match population wise, that is.
Charlotte-Douglas is already one of the Nation's busiest airports, and they already have a theme park (Carowinds)
When I say Metropolitan area is why ATL KILLS CLT in population, look at the counties adjacent to both
DeKalb County, GA

Charlotte's Most Populated Neighbor overall:
York County, SC
Population
• (2010) 226,073
• Density 332/sq mi (128/km˛)
Charlotte's most populous neighbor in NC:
Gaston County, NC
Population
• (2010) 206,086
• Density 534/sq mi (206/km˛)
Union County, NC

DeKalb County is more populated than York, Gaston and Union COMBINED. TBH If any one of those counties even wants to come CLOSE to having the population of DeKalb, one would have to add around as many residents as Guilford County (pop.488,406) to get close to DeKalb's population.
