Western beauty standards are based on the blonde hair, blue-eyed white woman, and the farther you are away from that the less beautiful you are perceived. Luckily, that's changing though. Only now are brown girls such as Kerry Washington, Gabrielle Union, and Tika Sumpter getting their much deserved shine. For most of America's history it was "the lighter, the better". That's why people are always making those crazy accusations about Beyoncé, Rihanna, and other celebs bleaching their skin.
