I think she's using them the way certain popstars use gays. She's stealing from them the way certain popstars stole from movements that were going on but hadn't been given full media attention.

Because she had nothing to gain from publicly supporting it in the 1980s. It was to her detriment that she vocalized her support of gay people before that was a popular thing to do.

I think that that was a dig at Gaga who actually is attempting to manipulate the gay community into higher sales. One not need look any further than her tweets and the thirsty gays on Grindr offering sexual favors for each purchase of Applause.
Who knows how it will do? Many of the top pop girls sales are really disappointing while the underdogs, like Miley, are seeing success, you never know with the charts and how things will work out, we shall see.
Miley was never an underdogs she's always been a main event.
