Katy Perry is roaring no more for the Cincinnati Bengals.
Quote:
On Monday, the NFL team used Perry's "Roar" as its pregame, in-game and postgame song. Fans roared back via social media, expressing their displeasure, and now Bengals officials says they will cut back on use of the song, the Wall Street Journal reports.
Team officials indicated the song may still be heard as fans file into Paul Brown Stadium, and there has not been a decision if the song will continue to be used as a post-victory song. Other teams sporting cat names have also used the song, including the Detroit Tigers, apparently without such a backlash.. A rep for the Tigers told the Wall Street Journal it would continue to play the song at home games.
"Roar" is currently No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and features a number of lyrics reminiscent of other sports anthems, including "I am a champion and you're gonna hear me roar."
The Bengals play the Green Bay Packers in Cincinnati Sunday.
Why would a football team attempt to use a Katy Perry song as its crowd warmer? They would have been better off going with tried and true selections like "We Will Rock You." This is a sporting event. Save "Roar" for the runway of America's Next Top Model or Drag Race.

Roar for a ANTM or a Drag race those decisions are even worse than for the NFL. LOL
