One underperformed compared to expectations. The other is doing just as well as people expected. That post deserves to be laughed at. "Poker Face" had "left-field" lyrics as well, and it did well. I will say that someone told me they didn't like Applause because they couldn't relate to it though. That's no excuse because the song is very commercial (besides the verses), but that's a big thing for a lot of people.
