If Gaga wants to follow Katy's steps, she should move on to another label, Capitol Records keeps being the best, that's it. And then, we don't have to discuss this over and over again
The irony..
Gaga loves charts, but she's never following Katy's steps
Applause and Roar are about equally "successful" imo.
Roar is a mega smash but it's ultra catchy and one of the most relatable songs of the year. Anyone age 10-100 can identify with the "No matter what you say, I mean something!!!" message.
Applause has a familiar production but the lyrics are so left field in terms of people feeling some type of way about them. Applause is a song purely about how the GP makes Gaga feel, not how Gaga makes the GP feel, and so in that really the only people who can relate to Applause is other performers.
So in that sense I think they are accomplishing roughly the same amount. I think Gaga doing fairly well with Applause is a testament to her power and I think Katy smashing with a song like Roar is unremarkable.

I think we're past that point where Applause and Roar can be mentioned and compared in the same sentence.
Roar is a breakout smash. Applause is an underperforming (according to Monsters' expectations) mediocre hit.

What ever helps you sleep at night because you're most certainly entitled to your own opinion.
Anyway, I can't at Dark Horse having a green update right now.
