I think subscriptions just allow you to have a collection of favorite users so their videos are easy to access. If you wish, you can receive updates concerning recent subscription uploads by going to your email options.

charlieissocoollike,
MarkRonson,
sxephil,
wgaamerica, and some of my friends' favorites. I used to be a subscriber of NBC and LilyAllen but both seemed to die.
