It feeds off the hype with the competition with Gaga. Since it's the "better" song, it has the advantage. People physiologically sway more towards the winner of the battle.

Then you don't know what Generic means. Generic isn't a Genre of music, three years ago Dance-Pop was Generic, right now Katy-Pop is Generic and in three years time maybe Urban will be generic. Generic refers to songs designed purely to appeal to whatever the public are enjoying at that particular point in time, they will always be 'here' for generic music.


So, what you basically said was: "We thought the public no longer liked the music which they like?!", which is a bit of a strange thing to say.

Because the song it's just not good.
