River Island plots international expansion after Rih tie-up
The fashion retailer River Island is planning to step up its international expansion after a tie-up with pop star Rihanna raised the company’s profile.
Quote:
Ben Lewis, chief executive, said that River Island is “more famous than it was a year ago” on the back of its collaboration with the global chart-topper and “would consider” expansion into the US.
The Rihanna for River Island collection was launched earlier this year in stores and the company has just unveiled the new autumn and winter range.
River Island is already operating in 14 countries and the retailer is particularly pursuing growth in Australia after building a specific website for the country.
If River Island also decides to open stores in the US then it would follow in the footsteps of rival Topshop, which successfully opened its first US store in New York in 2009 and is now also operating in Chicago, Las Vegas and Los Angeles.
Mr Lewis was speaking as River Island, which was 320 stores, unveiled robust results for 2012.
Over in London Topshop/Topman, River Island and H&M are like the trinity
with Zara now creeping up with their awesome tshirts and clothes
Well I'm in NY forever 21 and H&M have always been popular but IMO aside from boutiques in SoHo, Zara and Topshop have become the main go to location for shopping.
- interesting to see if River Island will follow suite if it opens in NY
