No -- there aren't any clues as to what is behind the painting. S/he set up these shots to show off, and s/he did, but to me a natural artist can convey a message with their art.

Still, very good. Excellently made. Not picking up any context behind them, thus, not natural, just technically masterful.

Well there lies the crux of the issue. How are we supposed to tell? We certainly can't with what you've given.

People merely use age as a qualifier because it suggests that a high level of skill was reached in such a short time. It was attributed to da Vinci because of the example given and his sketches of horses drawn at a young age.

Natural talent is innate and with it you're able to improve your ability at it at a faster rate than someone without it.

All things considered, Michelangelo was just stating the obvious. Without hard work and dedication even the most naturally talented artist would fail to create something spectacular. You could say their (natural) talent was wasted.

So innate talent is not an inborn skill that cant be learned? "naturally talented people" learn only faster?

Innate talent is an inborn skill (or propensity for it at least). It isn't learnt, but nourished. Since their talent gives them a head start over those without, the right training can help them reach higher heights as far as art goes when all is said and done.

So yes, those with it develop at a faster rate.

What is the proof that innate talent does exist? There are several studies that says there is no such thing as "natural talent".

I guess it could just be one of those things. Just like people attesting that IQ tests mean anything other than just knowing how to take an IQ test.

I'm not sure where I stand on that argument, but I do know that the brain's too complex to rule something like it out.

Well it's simple really. Just look at musicians, singers in particular. Some are blessed with great vocal chords which allow them to reach certain notes other people cannot with ease. Same thing goes with Art. Some people just see things differently and are able to transfer what they see directly onto canvas, with little to no training. I can tell you from my experience that even though we all had the same professor, same training, only 2 of us really stood out.
