What exactly are "expressive" singers expressing, just how bad their singing is? Lol
Give me a vocally trained and impressive singer any day.
If you're gonna call yourself a professional, you should be good at what you do. Nobody is gonna hire an "expressive" painter to paint their house or an "expressive" plumber to fix their sink.
One of the most interesting polls ATRL had in the base for a while.
i voted impressive because mariah's whistles are everything but then i forgot about Christina's overuse of her vocals . so..... idk now lol
Certain singers are impressive and expressive even though they don't do big notes and vocal runs, like Karen Carpenter. There's simply no excuse for being a bad technical singer.
Give me Bob Dylan, Patti Smith, Leonard Cohen, etc. over MOR crap like Mariah, Celine, Beyonce etc. any day of the week.
It's not ''an excuse for bad singers'' - if they can't make me feel anything, I'm not buying into it. I enjoy technically great vocal performances, and appreciate a vocalist based on skill - but most of the time I don't want something that'll leave me cold.
Example: I feel more soul in Britney's "Everytime" than I ever have in any Beyonce song.
Example: Christina's most emotional song is "I'm Ok," a song in which she hardly belts at all and her voice cracks. Hardly any vocal runs or show off.
I can go on. Expressive > Impressive
