Is Lorde en route to become the next Carly Rae Jepsen?
I'm seeing a lot of similarities between the two of them.
Both had a hit debut single (Call Me Maybe obviously bigger, but Royals is still rising), both had just an EP released in the states, and both decided to drop a second single amidst an already smashing first single.
Both artists released a second single that obviously didn't live up to par with the debut. (This Kiss never got even close to taking off, and so far, Team has been getting mediocre feedback from listeners.)
So, is Lorde just another Carly Rae. Will Pure Heroine sell more than Kiss?
Lorde is going to be a lot more successful than Carly was.
"Call Me Maybe" will be a bigger hit than "Royals" but when it comes to album sales and having successful singles (Lorde has numerous successful singles outside America), Lorde will do a lot better than Carly did.
Lorde's album is out in 2 weeks, and will probably be released the same week Royals tops the chart (or comes close).
Carly's album was out MONTHS after Call Me Maybe was at its peak.
Furthermore, I do believe "Team" is only being released in Aus and NZ so far, where Royals has already come and gone a long time ago. It isn't released on North American iTunes yet, because sales of "Team" could cannibalize sales of "Royals".
When I heard Carly Rae's album and heard no material that was single worthy, I knew she was doomed (at least as of right now), so I'll have to take a listen to Lorde's EP to see if I feel the same way.
That said, at least Carly had a second hit with Good Time.

Carly had successful singles outside America as well.
Call me Maybe was bigger and more famous than Carly. The song was so big it became her identity.
Royals isn't as big as CMM and Lorde has the opportunity to be seen as more than "That girl that sings Royals"
"Team" has been getting mediocre feedback? If anything, I think Lorde could be the Gotye of the year. Carly did badly in album sales outside of Japan and Canada. Lorde will likely do much better than that. She has a more hipster following.
No, Lorde is not a 30 year old women singing children's songs.
Lorde is 16 years old and she has better lyrics than half of the singers at this point (if not more) so she shouldn't be compared with Carly. Lorde should last.
I want her to be the next Adele if anything.
