GERI Halliwell will release her first single in eight years,
signing to Sony Music Australia.
Capitalising on her gig as a judge on Australia's Got Talent,
the former Spice Girl releases Half Of Me on October 25.
"I couldn't have asked for nicer people than the way you lot (Australians) have been to me and the way you've all embraced me,"
The singer wrote the track with local duo, DNA's Anthony Egizii and David Musumeci, who are responsible for big hits for Jessica Mauboy, Guy Sebastian and Samantha Jade, and is about "love, hope and optimism".
She also credited local Sony boss Denis Handlin for backing her passion for music.
"The head of Sony there is so old school, he is so lovely," she said. "He's got old school values about what the music is about and I think the industry can sometimes lose that. It is all about the music, and it always has been for me."
Her last solo single, Desire, was released in 2005.
"This is the first time I've released a solo record in a long time," she said. "So there's a bit of hesitation because you want it to be perfect when you are putting your toe back in the water."
