Miley caused a huge ruckus but the idea that people are treating her like the biggest pop star ever is arguable. Whats happening is that shes become the current example of the over sexualized pop tart and shes embracing that role and she wants that role. She wants to be considered edgy and envelope pushing with her, what the American public would deem, outlandish sexual behavior. People responding to that and referencing her in things doesnt mean they think shes the biggest pop star ever, shes just incredibly relevant right now (granted....in a negative way)

I think people confuse bandwagoning with people being into someone or something for the moment. We all have little things we get into for a while, and some people may just be claiming to like her to be cool, but some people may simply just like her. The more music we hear this era and the deeper we go into the era, more and more people are going to start liking her. It's a part of her getting hits, increasing her fanbase and having bandwagoners are 2 different things.
