Someone told me that they get 3 cents every time any radio station in the US anywhere plays their songs.
I thought it was ridiculous and made up. But is there any truth to this?

That's true. Every time a song gets played on the radio the record label get a sum of money (I don't know exactly what it is, but it's MUCH more than 3 cents) and they divide it between the vocalist, the producer, the song-writers, and other people.
It's not just radio, the same happens every time a song is played in a club, or used in a film, advert, TV show, or played in a shopping centre or a restaurant.
