I don't know much about this girl or her music but I am definetly interested if she really is something different and not just forcing herself to be different because she doesn't wanna be considered "Pop".
I like genuine, honest and humble. I don't want someone thinking they're better than everyone else just because they do something different from the norm yet aren't really focused on being different because it's who they are, more just to prove they're not manufactured.
I'll give her EP a listen. I like Royals I must say. If she appeals to me, I'll be banking on her to absolutely SMASH her way through mainstream with her original material and remind people what music is made for again.

Really now? There will always be more talented musicians out there that we've never heard of, therefore we can apply that logic to every white female musician who has some degree of popularity. Even Gaga.
Edit: I get that you're making a point about non-white quirky female alternative artists getting nowhere near the level of attention and adoration of their white counterparts (which indeed is a damn shame) but singling out Lorde as though she is utterly talentless and has nothing going for her other than her looks is unfair, regardless of how you feel about her music.
