successful? What is the psychology behind it? How do you deal with it?

Did you just get a #1 single on the hot 100 or something?

Because they find your more interesting and cool?

They do that because they want power. Being friends with someone who's deemed "powerful" in their eyes satisfies them because they want power.

from a psychological view, people obviously want to be associated with and be around successful people. they will think this will come to them too, or they will want to leech off you.

from a positive view...can people not just want to praise you? if an old friend of mine was successful i'd praise them. is it not in our nature to be happy for other people?

Of course there will be people who sincerely congratulate me and praise me, and I am grateful, but I dont know if you can relate. I find it weird that they want to be my friend and bother to contact me when they didnt do it before the success.

most likely, as somebody else said, they only want to surround themselves around successful people and or use you. i doubt you even will fall for it, but never don't. congrats on any milestone you've accomplished though. don't let fake people try to ruin your happiness.

Yes, I've experienced this, hangers on who try and befriend me once they know who I am and what I've got in the bank. It's amazing who comes out of the woodwork, I've even had people who used to bully me in HS come crawling back trying to be besties. They are such sad individuals I pity them. It must be hard to need to feed of others success just to have some kind of self worth

You should stay away from those people, or confront them. That **** is so ****ing annoying. Someone here said it might be genuine, but i doubt it is. If it was, then why are they just an old friend, and why did they contact you/reach out to you after you've become successful rather than earlier? They didnt think you were important enough earlier, that alone should give you an idea about what to do.
