Other than all the responses above, I think this new Superman is riding on the success of The Dark Knight Legend. They make sure people know this is somewhat related to it by boasting Nolan as the producer.
Superman Returns gets paid dust now because it deserves it. How were they going to start a movie franchise off an uninteresting Superman dealing with baby mama drama? Psssh.
Man of Steel is an excellent beginning to what could be a fantastic trilogy.

Man of Steel may be overly bombastic, but at least it's somewhat compelling, unlike 2006's mess.
Man of Steel didn't even have Superman in it, I thought it was going to flop.. Actually, maybe that's why it was so successful? Does Superman sound a bit baybish to y'all?
