I'd like to see an African city (Cape Town, Johannesburg, Cairo).

For a US city, Denver Seriously though, I can't believe we past our chance to host the Winter Olympics

Summer Olympics are such a production that it requires a larger city than Denver.

I expect them to bid for 2022 though along with Salt Lake City and Lake Tahoe.


(I don't think Denver will ever host after the fiasco last time.)

They won the games. Then a couple years later said "**** it" and dropped them.

Leaving the IoC to scramble to find another site at the last minute.

The games have gotten VASTLY more expensive now. The age of medium sized cities or medium sized counties hosting the games is over.

It terms of Summer olympics, yes. But smaller / medium sized cities still can sucessfully host the Winter Olympics.

I'm still amused they spent like $50 billion on the Sochi games.

Almaty officially bid for the 2022 Winter games. I remember a Calgary mayor candiate in 2010 say he'd bid for the 2026 games. But I doubt it would happen.

IN all honesty, do they Olympics even make sense anymore? They became all about money and now they are just a huge money dump, see what happened to Greece after Athens 2004...
