Do people praise celebs that they "relate" to boost their own ego?

ooh that's deep. um... well.
the things we like are things that makeup who we are, right? so by sticking to that logic, it's plausible to assume liking a certain artist who happens to be very successful in their genre could be a plus on a person's ego. because if you stan for like Adele or Kanye West, then your in a position to gloat and boast about such success and how you assume pride in it.
at the same time if your a "hipster," or simply a person who doesn't necessarily strive for a mainstream music appeal on your iPod/music device, you're in a position to boast about your musical diversity and therefore others can deem you as someone with quality music taste. which is essentially a boost on your ego.
this can be said equally for film and television stars, actors who ride the wave of popularity for a few good years tend to make fanbases who love going to movies or watching shows simply because they're in it, sometimes because of how well received by most critics they are. and then we have the underground/indie/broadway-to-film-and-television actors where the fans might find more pride in that they're aware of an up and coming star before everyone else.
on all ends of the spectrum, yes people do sometimes stan for celebrities to boost their own ego, and that's simply based on human nature. if you knew about someone before they were famous then that means something to you, so naturally it makes you feel special for it. at the same time, you feel special in some way because you like someone who is relatively well accepted and famous.
this is a matter of human nature.
