LOL stop acting like it was Madonna herself who set off the BTW/EY comparison controversy. She didn't even speak on it until a year later...after the comparisons had long been permeated into pop culture. It was the GP who noticed it and accused Gaga of hijacking Madonna's song -- this was after Gaga had built her fame on being a Madonna 2.0, BTW wasn't the first time she had done something that was a little too close to something Madonna had already done for it to just be a coincidence. "Born This Way" was simply one too many.

Anyway, I hate to defend Katy...really, I do...but Sarah is no Madonna and "Brave" is no "Express Yourself." The GP was familiar with Madonna's song; they weren't however that aquatinted with "Brave," so Katy's copycat song wasn't so obvious to everybody, and therefore she came away much less scathed.

No they don't care because Katy has never claimed to be some great artist and pop innovator like some ppl. Plus they're not that similar. And Brave isn't popular

I personally think the main reason the Born This Way/Express Yourself issue kicked off was due to Gagas fans. There's so many of them online who try to imply that Gaga is one of the most original pop stars of all time and that everyone these days are inspired by her/ripping her off that as soon as there became an opportunity to state the opposite everyone jumped on the bandwagon and it snowballed from there.


Katy doesn't have the same 'She created the heavens, the earth and the music' stigma, so no one cares that her song sounds like someone else's.

I don't think the GP know most of these rip-off controversies.

No, because Sara Bareilles is a "nobody" and it is actually helping her get the buzz she hasn't had since "Love Song."

I feel like a lot of people don't really care. I know I don't care that much. Songs with negative backlash from the GP don't make it to #1. The producer has already said "Roar" was done before "Brave" was released, so the chances of Katy's producers actually copying the song are very small. The songs sound similar because they're both pretty generic. Most people have moved on, but people who don't like Katy will continue to bring this up for a long time.

I also agree with one of the comments above that some of the GP may be unaware of the similarities between the two songs. I've only heard of it through this site, I think.
