I don't think Taylor can really be a "hipster goddess" if she is constantly making fun of them (while simultaneously dressing and seeming to want to be one, appropriating no-lens glasses and the works as a way of making fun of them but also claiming that look). A hipster will not admit to being a hipster, but they won't sing songs about "dressing up like a hipster" and talking about how you don't like "hipster music".

And to answer the OP,

Carole King? NO way. Her music is much too mature and thoughtful than Taylor's juvenile songs.

I'm not too familiar with Carly Simon except for You're So Vain which is very Taylor-esque, so maybe.

And Joni? Don't think so either.

From what I've read of the book Girls Like Us, Taylor seems to have the most in common with Carly. Both come from wealthy East Coast families, both highly emotional, romantic types, both dated a lot of hot, famous guys and wrote songs about them. But artistically, she reminds me of Carole King; I think they have a similar approach to songwriting. I don't see any Joni in Taylor, but maybe I need to read further

Back to December and All Too Well are two songs of Taylor's that I think would fit seamlessly onto the Tapestry album. And I don't know how much you know about Carole King's music but she wrote a lot of fun pop songs. I see You Belong With Me as something Carole might have written for one of her girl groups.

And yet she is the most loved mainstream artist among them. Probably because Taylor`s music is the closest to alternative from all the "big girls".

Her looks remind me of Joni. There's something about the way she holds her guitar...Anyway, I think she's artistically similar to Carole and Carly the most.
