Discussion: Borrowing Money...

Have you ever borrowed from or lent out money to others? What are your thoughts/experiences with this ordeal?

Personally, I don't mind allowing people I'm close to borrow money (some family and very close friends), but sometimes it gets out of hand. Like my cousin just called me and asked to borrow money so she can pay her light bill and she's in a really tight bind right now. She's a single mother with 3 kids and she's always on her grind trying to make ends meet. I have a soft spot for her. I really don't mind because i have it, but at the same time I'm always leery about if she's going to pay me back when she says she's going to. Like her sister is still paying me back from money she borrowed at the beginning of last year.

Anyway, I'm blessed to say I've never been in a predicament to where I had to borrow money from someone, but something tells me I have too much pride to even do it. The only times I've had issues is when going places that don't accept debit/credit (for some odd reason) and having to have someone temporarily spot me until I can hit up the bank soon thereafter, but even doing that is too much for me and I only do it when absolutely necessarily.

I hate borrowing money, even loans for a university. I think it can turn sour fast when it's borrowing among friends/family. Debt/Owing money <<<

I lend (more like give) money to people all the time and never get it back from them. That's why I always say I'm broke now when I'm asked for money. I don't have time for people who can't return what they owe.

I'm just the type of person that can't say no. I was on the phone with my aunt and she was telling me that my cousin was trying to get in contact with me because she needed to borrow money and she was like "just tell her you don't have it or something" and I was like yeah ok like I'm not going to do it and as soon as I got off the phone and called my cousin I gave in instantly.

Money is such a sensitive subject between two friends. I dont borrow money and I hate to do it.

I borrowed 2k from a dads friend for my beauty school kit, with interest. A mess,
wouldn't recommend it to people, but then again bank loans are so popular.

I don't mind borrowing or giving money to my sisters or close friends, I don't expect them to pay me back. If they do great, if they don't it's not a big deal.

I've only lent money out once, I don't like doing it

I let my mom borrow 1500 and was honestly worried that I'd get it back but she was true to her word and gave me back that plus some

I hate having to borrow money as well it makes me feel bad and poor

Like I don't necessarily mind if they don't pay me back (close friends and close family in particular), but don't say you're going to and not do it. It's the principle.

I don't mind lending money to parents and siblings, and they rarely ask if ever, but when they do, I help them no questions asked, and I don't even expect them to pay back.

I also don't mind lending to other relatives or close friends, but I expect them to pay back, whether it be with money or with favors when I'm in need. If I help them, but they always make up excuses when I need help, then they're not getting anything

Borrowing is a big fat NO for me, unless it's something incredibly serious like the risk of being evicted or something

I lease my car, I hate loans.
It's very rare that I lend people money haha
I NEVER ask people for money. I haven't been in a situation where I needed to though

I find that disgusting actually. People who lend you money are trusting you and you just broke it like that. Smh

Exactly, Why I never expect it back, But my friends and sisters have money and I know if theyre asking they really need it.

My friends and I buy each other **** all the time without expecting to be paid back (since we know next time the other one will buy whatever), so I've never really owed/been owed money with friends.

Now my school loans on the other hand....... I'll be in a **** ton of debt by time I graduate

I've no problems lending money if I have extra but some people just act like they don't owe you anything once you need the money back.

It's funny that I am the one who feels awkward reminding them about the money they owe. I hate doing that. If you borrowed money, at least have the initiative to give it back.

I've luckily never needed to ask people besides my parents if I could borrow money. However, I have asked a roommate or housemate to pay for my monthly rent if I don't have my checkbook handy or I'm away for an extended period. But I always remember to pay them back as soon as I get back.
