Anything under 20$ YEARLY is cheap. 10$ wouldn't be anything.
In Japan the app goes on sale for 500 Yen, which is about 5$ irrc, and the free trial last until January 31st.
If they do it similarly to the US, that should give people plenty of time to transfer their Pokemon. Another great thing is that it doesn't allow you to trade over hacked Pokemon.
