Even a SWASTIKA has a different connotation in Asia It is basically the symbol of peace in buddhism
People need to get off their podiums and stop whining and crying about imaginary racism.
Yes, because the swastika symbol has been around since the Indus River Valley civilization. It is the sacred symbol for "auspicious" in Hinduism. Where do you think the Nazis got it from?
Do you even know what blackface symbolize? If you did you would not ask this silly, ignorant question. Educate yourself before speaking. Whiteness is the norm, blackness is not. Every black face is a statement of social imperfection, inferiority, and mimicry that is placed in isolation with an absent whiteness as its ideal opposite
Why are the social justice warriors on this website so America-centric? Do they seriously not understand that the rest of the world does not have the same cultural or racial history as America?
It depends are their any connotations to white painted faces that have lead to the suffering of others and what the painted face represented. Until then, white painted faces from what I know is not racist
I mean really, how do you type this and not stop to think for one second that MAYBE blackface does not have these same connotations when you're NOT IN AMERICA.
I don't think it's racist. I think the idea of a "charcoal" donut is ****ing dumb, but I don't think racism was at all an inclination. Hell, I'd even agree with the "paranoid American thinking" comment to a certain extent (although maybe saying specifically American isn't necessary). People take offense to literally everything now and at some point you just gotta understand that everything's not meant to hurt people.

That doesn't change anything bby.
Quote:
Robertson noted that, in Thailand and throughout much of Asia, there is a “palpable sense of racism” and an “unfortunate lack of consciousness of what these racist images mean.” He said the Dunkin’ Donuts ad was not particularly out of context, considering that Thailand sells products like the Blackman Mop, which uses blackface images in its marketing, and Darlie (formerly “Darkie”) toothpaste, which has a “Sambo”-like image on its packaging.
As someone of color, I don't feel that it's racist at all.
It definitely is "paranoid American thinking". This does not put down, mock or negatively characterize Americans of color.
I actually like the ad.
How can it be racist? Do people even know what it means to be racist?
“unfortunate lack of consciousness of what these racist images mean.”
You're joking, right?
Like, yes, they don't know what the images mean because they don't mean the same thing in their culture. The ignorance disguised as being socially conscious is TOO MUCH

It would be racist if she had a bone stuck in her nose or big lips.
People are calling it black face just because the lipstick pops up.
Why do I feel like Tyra would praise this shot if this were ANTM
I definitely get both sides of the argument, and for the sake of public backlash, I do think the ad should be reconsidered. Actually, that burnt charcoal donut should be reconsidered....
