I'm so glad I live in the Research Triangle as opposed to other areas of this state (sans most the cities over 80K).Some of the rural areas ESPECIALLY in the Southeastern corner and Western portions of the state are a cesspool.
I wouldn't mind living in any NC metro area, really. I grew up in Charlotte, the Raleigh-Durham area is cool, I really like the Greensboro/Triad area where I live now. The only places outside of those where I would consider would be Asheville -- possibly Wilmington. Everything else is a firm no. There are some beautiful places, but, I need culture/atmosphere as well.

I know. I would live in most of those Areas too.Fayetteville might be a little too military townish for me but I would DEFINITELY take that over Kinston or New Bern.
Wilmington is Great. I love that it reminds you of a mini version oo Savannah although it's in the Republican mess of a county that is new Hanover. The drive Down I-40 is SO BORING though. Almost unbearable if you ask me.
As far as UNC Chapel Hill, that is a VERY GOOD public university. The area is your typical liberal college town but be ready to do Walmart runs out of city limits. Really Walmart has TWO stores right OUTSIDE Chapel Hill limits.Duke is EXPENSIVE and DEFINITELY out of the question.
Chapel Hill itself DEFF has a small town feeling to it.
Oh... Brandon.
I didn't even look into Duke because I know it's expensive and very competitive. I don't mind having to drive a few minutes to go grocery shopping. I'm actually from a small town and it requires a 15 min drive every time I want to go to Wal-Mart.

I love Savannah too. Those damn sandflies tho. **** that ****.
I think when I'm older/more settled, I wouldn't mind living in Asheville. It's such a chill place...it has a very Austin, TX neo hippie type vibe and goodness it's so beautiful there.

Yes,very but they do have a nice campus.Grocery shopping isn't necessarily the problem, just Walmart and the Mall.

I don't think I could live up North...not necessarily because I dislike the cities, I just HATE harsh winters. I went to Chicago the winter before last in January and OMFG I wanted to go home so bad.

Sometimes winters here can be harsh, but idk after awhile you get use to it. It's not that I hate the south, its just not for me. I love the fast paced living in chicago.
I love the winter and I love when the snow is laid on THICK.
Sometimes I wear shorts all the way up until November here. It's ridiculous. I actually love cold weather and here we're sometimes lucky to get 2 good months of winter.

Going to school in NC would be an absolute last resort. If I can't stay in Georgia or maybe get accepted at USC (where I don't have to pay out of state tuition) then I would much rather relocate up north.

Y'all can keep.
I get mad about the our annual 1-3 dustings of snow per year. It's pretty, but, eff that.
Every few years we'll get a freak snow storm...I remember the last REALLY bad one was when I was a kid we got two feet+ and we were out of school for more than two weeks. We just can't handle that brand of precipitation.
