"Paralyzer" has, officially, eclipsed "One Thing" as Finger Eleven's biggest hit in the states. Wow.
And I think that everyone WILL remember "Crank That" ten years from now, just in the way that people remember "Macarena", that being, a song that took over and got just about everybody on the dance floor and was a MASSIVE success at the time, though it would not be fondly remembered over time.
^i agree...with more emphasis on downloads, songs can be #1 first week out of curiosity and then fall, those with staying power on raadio or more of real hits

damn, hip hop and r&b are dominating the singles charts, lol!
i've noticed that most labels only use payola for the first few singles of every album because they figure by the time the 3rd or 4th single is out, the album has already sold pretty much all it's going to sell. Look at Avril's "Hot", Nelly's "Do It" and "AGT", Ne-Yo's "Can We Chill", Ciara's "CLEA", Mariah's "Say Something"...the list goes on. I personally think the way the chart is set up now is the fairest representation of a song's success in the US except of course, when payola tampers with things. Obviously "Beautiful Liar" and "Wind It Up" weren't that successful but they still peaked very high and then plummeted like stones back when digital downloads made up the majority of the Hot 100. If those two songs were released today they probably would only barely make it to the top 20.
