If minimum wage rises, everything rises along with it. The price of food and much of everything else will slowly increase along with it to fit the standard.

ok but that doesnt mean you have to give in to it. people go from rags to riches a lot and it's possible for anyone. you just have to have the right mindset which clearly a lot of you don't. if you think you have no choice but to succumb to the system then you belong there.

And not to mention, having a college degree doesn't equal instant success. You could get a degree and still have trouble getting a job.

You need the right mindset and luck if you want to.

The first part I am sure 100% of poor people have, I mean who would want to struggle every day to survive? The 2nd part is what really counts

People need to stop aiming for jobs and aim for careers.
That's a big problem, tbh. I get that when you don't exactly have bread on the table, you can't be worrying about where your money is coming from, but most individuals I know who aren't so well off are just going from job to job, and putting in the minimal effort (to get fired in a few months eventually) so that they never exactly escape the cycle of joblessness.

We have one of the highest minimum wages out there at $9/hour and people are still barely making it because of the ridiculous cost of living. It's so sad how it's 2013 and there are still millions of food-insecure people in such a rich first world country.

The whole thing is an exhausting and tangled mess where I wouldn't even know where to begin in fixing.

College grads/professionals can hardly find work these days and they are the ones with the advantage over unskilled workers/low income people. Cutting food stamps is not the answer in trying economic times. Cutting corporate welfare however is. Banks,lenders, investment companies, mortgage companies, Wall Street, and other financial institutions are the ones who should be weaned off the governments t*ts. They are the ones draining our country its funds.Subsidy is just code for welfare for the rich.

I went to a public high school with inner city minorities and there were about 5 students in the whole school who cared about grades and a better life, while the others were more worried about sneakers, getting diqed, or partying. I guess the success stories will always be rare when only a few are trying.

I see what you're saying and that would be easy if you didn't need a college degree for damn near everything. And when people try to get into a college they're too poor to afford it or not qualified.

There is also the risk of still not getting a job even when you graduate.

so it's ok to be insensitive about someone's medical state of mind because they're a pop star but it's not ok to be insensitive about someone's ability to do better for themselves even when they don't do anything about it?

That's because there are more college grads than ever. businesses have the right to be choosy.

If it's really such an issue, why didn't you just ask for the payment to put towards food in November.
