John Mayer is apparently suffering from a badly bruised ego and is said to have been left "gutted" that girlfriend Katy Perry turned down his recent marriage proposal, it's been reported.
The Born and Raised singer was rumoured to have popped the question to Firework star in a bid to prove that he has "no plans to run away" and is fully committed to their relationship for the long haul.
However, insiders claim that although Katy loves John, she is in no rush to head down the aisle for a second time and thinks marriage can wait.
"John’s proposal really unnerved Katy. Even though they have discussed it, she thought it was too soon," a source told Grazia magazine.
"Katy loves John, but doesn’t feel she has had enough healing time since her divorce. She told him she just needed a bit more time to feel whole in herself again."
The couple have been inseparable since rekindling their on/off romance in July after briefly splitting in March, dueting on the single Who You Love and Katy recently joining her beau on tour in New York for a performance in Long Island.
