I would like to express my outright disgust with Billboard’s decision to change their policy on counting exclusive albums on the Billboard 200 chart; specifically, the change that resulted in the Eagles taking the #1 spot on this week’s Billboard 200 chart.
It is one thing to inform the industry, with adequate time, of a major change to the biggest album chart in the United States. However, it is quite another thing to proceed with such a large change in policy AFTER the album sales have already been counted. This seems preconceived, completely biased, and utterly unfair.
If you have an active policy and there are record companies basing release dates CONTINGENT ON THE RULES CURRENTLY IN-FORCE, how can you then change those rules AFTER said albums have ALREADY been released? It makes absolutely no sense and it makes a mockery of your system, your rules, and your charts. Subsequently, I would expect rapid distrust among consumers of the Billboard charts from now on as it seems that the company will make any changes it wants, on a whim, without regard to the record companies, artists, and fans that those changes may affect.
Thank you very much for your last-minute policy changing, as I am SURE you are well aware of the losses you will be incurring in the long run due to this.
Walmart decided to report the Soundscan figures by Tuesday evening. Nobody thought they would do it, that's why rules weren't changed BEFORE. However, it was in the rules that if Soundscan numbers were reported, Billboard could use them for the chart at their discretion.
I don't believe that we will get britney to ONE, but at least we protest against the way and time there was this change...simply unfaire
Well, logically. If they do favor this protest and change the rules again, wouldn't Britney be one anyway? Unless they sue them or something and still keep Eagles there.
This is retarded. it changed except it. Does Number one really matter in all reality? i mean the facts are facts. Britney sold 290 000 copies...that wont change. The Eagles sold over 700 000 ...that wont change. People are so caught up in number one number one...number two is great too.
