And here is where things become interesting. When everyone - including Marina herself - mentioned that EH was "a bit of selling out", everyone came in lauding TFJ as a masterpiece that was "the real Marina". While I do believe TFJ is a masterpiece, it was obvious that the appreciation it was receiving was only done to make a point, to prove the difference between the two albums. 
 
But no one really paid attention to The Family Jewels, it seems. A major topic on the album is her quest for fame. "Mowgli's Road" depicts the label executives (silver spoons) that wanted her to change who she was for fame. She even addressed this particular situation in the pre-chorus + chorus of "Oh No!":

Or should we mention how "Are You Satisfied?" she talks about how unhappy she is that she has to change herself for fame (I was pulling out my hair the day I got the deal... was I meant to feel happy that my life was just about to change?). I haven't even mentioned her admiration for the darker/messed up side of Hollywood yet. 
 
So, why did her "selling out" come to a shock to people? Marina had been telling us the whole time how much she wanted to be famous, and she never shied away from that fact. Didn't she also have a meltdown on twitter one time when "Shampain" didn't go as well as expected? Because she totally doesn't want to be successful, right? 
 
Like, even in "Primadonna" - the song that she gets criticised the most - she blatantly sings about how all she ever wanted was the world, that she needs it all, etc. So many people acted surprised but all of this has been within the music since the beginning. Marina is extremely honest and I respect that, she doesn't have much of a filter and doesn't have any hidden agendas because they're always on show.

 I interpreted it differently, funnily enough!
I viewed it as her starting out Marina and slowy discovering that, if she did want her fame, she WOULD have to change. But, you know, she isn't a Robot and can't just do what she is told. She isn't like those other girls and will get there her way.
Then, you make your way through the album with her constantly defending herself, then accepting defeat, and then coming upon "Oh No!" (which is, really, descriptive enough) where she tries to justify it.

But then she puts the nail in the coffin.
I'm now becoming my own 
self-fulfilled prophecy. (A self-fulfilling prophecy is a prediction that directly or indirectly causes itself to become true)
Oh...oh no...oh no...oh no!
Then she realized she has no family left. Nobody to turn to. Not even herself, but hey, she is famous! She finally has it all...
