Her voice from Memoirs until now has been terrible. The amount of autotune on "Almost Home" alone<<<<<
I wasn't too impressed with her vocals on MCIIU either, but it was a good album. She needs to quit with all of this studio trickery and just make songs she can sing.
Well hey that's where opinions differ, but you have to admit her vocals are much stronger compared to E.
Honestly I don't think Mariah uses a lot of auto-tune. I can hear it every now and again(rlike that random high belt in #beautiful).I just think her production team sucks now.Whoever mixes her vocals really suck ass. She sounds to far away sometimes.
It's no secret though, she sounds different almost every era. May I ask though, whats wrong with her voice in MCIIY? She hit some belts that she hadn't did in years, and I know that wasn't auto-tune or pitch correction. Mariah used her high belting a lot last decade, that's why during her TEOM tour she avoided a lot of her classics, and when she sung songs like Make It Happen and Hero, she sounded a tired hoarse mess. Also during that tour she'd let her backgorund do all the heavy mid belting.During the MCIIY era she was sustaining mid chest notes like crazy. She also regained a lot of resonance back. Only problem I had with MCIIY was some of blatant copy paste vocals. If you're gonna blend two takes of vocals together,do it smoothly :rolleyes
I remember when she did the Xmas special taping, the haters were coming out of the wood works saying that she couldn't sing like that anymore(even though she dubbed it,it was still her singing live that night). her live performances were IMMACULATE that era too, even if it was short lived.(she gives her all for Christmas tho)
You say her voice has been terrible, but gurl.....think back to 2008 and look at the progress.(Don't ever forget )
The Aussie shows she did earlier this year alone>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> E=MC2 vocally
Production wise yes it was.All the albums you named were more R&B/Pop oriented. This album was much more Hip-Hop.That's what I mean by Urban.
E=MC2 had a lot of heavy beats, Miami bass, Southern Hip-hop type urban sound. The Dream Trickey Stewart, and Danja produced most of the album.
Charmbracelet was very light and ethereal feel to it. It's very springy(if i could use a season to describe it)
MOAIA was very laid back, and Imo becomes boring in some parts. Memoirs had a lot of slow jams on it and ballads. The only "Up-tempo" was Obsessed(and truly it was a mid tempo)
E=MC2 had a very summery vibe to it. It's the type of record you could play at a family cookout, or bang in your Escalade truck sitting on 22's(ghetto people lingo ya'll). The type of albums you'd hear someone riding by blasting in the hood.
It had that ghetto feel to it on some songs. So yeah it was more Urban and Hip-Hop oriented compared to the others, which were ultimately R&B/Soul.
"Touch My body and I'll be "Loving you long time" are the "poppiest" tracks on the album...That's it.
So, according to you, light/ethereal/springe/laid back/ballad contradict Urban/HiphHop?
E=MC˛ has a million WBT-knockoffs, I'm That Chick (which has a lot of Pop, Disco in it), Side Effects etc. It may have a "ghetto feel" but I never ever thought of it as the most Urban/HipHop one by her.
Side Effects, I'm That Chick and Migrate all should of been singles
Don't get me started. The songs were flawless and did have the potential to become huge hits. E=MC˛ could have easily continued where Mimi ended.
But oh well, Mariah fell in love and finally got the man she'd dreamed of. I assume that's more worth than another number one ... which I still want her to get, though
Also the haunting vibe of the whole production. I love the somber instrumentals and synths in there. TBH E=MC2 is herebest album of the 2000's production wise. Everything sounds to crisp and clear(save for Mimi's raspy, thin and worn out vocals) It really hid the fact that Mimi's voice had been pooped from the TEOM tour.
The production complimented her vocal state at the time
YES! I love Side Effects one of my favorite Mariah songs ever.

Her vocals that era made me think back to her 90's performances
E=MC2 was a hit after hit album for me, so many potential smashes Memoirs was a nice listen but lacked the smashes I had hoped for imo. Mariah knows how to make a hit song though so I'm not too concered for her future
So in my chemistry class today, my teacher told us that we would be doing a lab next week and when she passed out the papers explaining it, I saw that the title of the lab was "All That Glitters" She better stan
