Stanning ONLY for them (and a few others) is like basically endorsing the assumption that you lack of real hip hop knowledge. The roots, the influences, the composition, the history and why it's important today, etc. This is all prevalent when discussing things like why Nicki is doing so many flop features right now but in reality are they really flopping or is everyone holding them to this mainstream success standard (that comes from pop music) that shouldn't be used in a hip hop conversation?

You are WRONG. What part of the posts above actually state that we don't know the history or even facts about hip hop? Cause we do. Heck, I know that 2 Pac is one of the greatest and is considered the King, I know that he will be irreplaceable even is a lyrical GENIUS comes by someday because it's ****ing 2 Pac, and I am thankful to him because without the likes of him, there wouldn't be Hip Hop, and there wouldn't be Nicki.
But I hate 2Pac's music, to be honest. Am I a non-hip hop fan? No, cause mixtape-Nika is what I fell for. When I'm talking about Nicki's features flopping I am not talking about mainstream success at all. Eminem slayed with his albums and most of his **** isn't THAT mainstream. I mean, ****ing look at Roman's Revenge? Was it mainstream? **** became gold without a video!
When you're saying that stanning for them is like lacking real hip hop knowledge, it's just like saying that stanning for certain artists (who make music) in general is just like lacking knowledge for the entire art of music in general, the fundamentals of it, which happen to be the instruments, because every music branch evolved from the instruments, and no instruments = no music.
We know what the roots of hip hop are. But Nicki's music is what we love. It IS considered Hip Hop. We don't have to like the others. This is the present.

Everything I bolded is nonsense because no one is coming at YOU specifically. It's a general statement to blanket those that are guilty (which it seems you are). Good day.

Second, the problem with what you bolded in my post is literally what I stated above that sentence.
This is something common in TM here and on twitter. Expecting things that just don't usually happen in Hip Hop to happen like all Nicki's features smashing because her name is on it.
|
And that's why I said "let them know". A lot of times, many are misinformed instead of just trying to act pretentious.
A lot of them just want to see chart success and awards, and I know that is frustrating and can be bothersome, but as I said above, many are just misinformed of the HIP-HOP culture because they stay within the POP culture and see her as a pop star, when that isn't the case.
I can't speak for the ones who do it on purpose, but I can speak on the misinformed, because I was once like that in a certain point in time but I fully grasp the concept now, mainly from associating with the fanbase on here and scanning twitter every now and then.

I don't know why I started screaming when I saw Tupac mentioned.

Not to anyone specific but 85% of the new members try way to hard to drag, rant and make a name for themselves. It's not necessary. Not everyone can be a leader or some amazing Nicki forum guru. Some of you aren't built for the conversation we have in base and that's just the way it is. Stop getting offended at every piece of "shade" or post you disagree with. It's petty.

Who said you were coming at me specifically? I said that you were coming at those who listen only to Nicki or a very limited number of hip hop artists, which I happen to be one.
Do you fail to comprehend?
Since when you think you're able to decide who's guilty and not anyways?

Yeah, but at the same time, some older members (no one in specific) could cool it down with the unnecessary stuff. No shade to anyone though; just a common observation.
Both sides are at fault when it comes to this.

But before you make such posts you should really specify, or at least other people should try to understand who "does it on purpose" and who doesn't, because, weren't you the one who said above that a fan is a fan no matter what?
I don't find myself included this but whatever, I'll refer to what I argued about above.
Is it not possible, for God's sake, to seek higher and higher success and awarding for the artist you idolize, besides what he/she has achieved so far? Or are you considered a straight-pop fan just because you seek success that might seem impossible compared to what the artist has done thus far?

Bam! And I think everyone needs to just take a breather, get some sunshine (or moonshine), and/or sleep. That convo escalated way too fast and y'all are too good to be acting this petty towards one another.

I don't see it to be honest. Everyone knew what to expect when joining base. I know who to avoid and not start issues with and who I can actually have a decent conversation with. Everyone claimed they've been lurking for months and even years yet they still don't know how to exist in base without creating drama with old members?

You said "Why do you feel guilty though, I wasn't coming at YOU *specifically*?
I said: You weren't coming at me *specifically*, but you were coming to US fans who like just *some* rap artists, with Nicki being one.
Was that so hard? Or do you need further break down?

Yeah, a fan is fan, no matter what, but at the same time, SOME fans do speak on certain topics that they have NO IDEA about, and end up coming off as a fool in some situations. I'm not shading anyone, not coming for anyone, but it's the truth. Some speak on it like what they're saying is fact, and do come off as pretentious. I see Flare's point with his/her statement, and I sort of agree with it.
There's nothing wrong with wanting success for your favorite artist. We all want her to have success. But there's nothing wrong with her doing these features, or dropping a track out of the blue. It's not for the success, it's to build hype, to stir something up. That's what Onika is doing; she isn't magic by any means, she can't make something go gold/platinum just by her alone.
Your not a straight up pop-fan for just wanting her to succeed; you become a straight-up pop fan when all you stan for is her success and let that interfere with her music.
Do you see my point?

Ikr, one of the worst attempts at rapping in music history. She could at least have made less than 90% of the lines end with "like Lady Gaga", how hard can it be when you're a songwriter?

I see your point, but I'm going to have to disagree.
I don't think we're going to get anywhere with this topic, so let's just agreee to disagree and move on from this. It's not helping anything.
