I think it's just what catches your ear or what/where/who you were raised around.

Sometimes it's about image, other times it's meaningful lyrics.

Maybe it might be what makes you dance, I don't know.

Rock; alternative, metal, hardcore, punk, industrial, electronic, gothic, classic.
Pop.
Hip-hop.

Just depends on the song or artist.
