His music is inspired by old school music, so I think it's not a surprise if his songs sound derivative
Robin Thicke also did that with BL.
Amy W, Mayer H, The Black Keys, basically every artist who makes old school music will sound derivative.

Just like JT who is heavily inspired by MJ. He's not original too if we wanna see this from your point of view.

You can call anyone king, prince, or whatever, but if GP disagree, it still useless. Elvis' title as king of rock n' roll and MJ's title as king of pop got support from GP. That's why that title stick to them even after they died.
