A metaphor for falling into an unhealthy relationship that many misunderstood as Gaga proclaiming her love for the controversial Biblical figure Judas Iscariot. Although this wasn't as big as some of her past hits, it managed to perform well overseas. In the US, it went top ten and has sold approximately 800-900k copies. The music video boasts over 171 million views.
A honky tonk rock ballad that showed Gaga's range. She took it to #6 on the Hot 100, tying Mariah Carey for the most career-opening top ten hits by a woman. Has sold over 2 million copies in the US.
A song with non-mainstream lyrics analyizing the junction of art and pop culture. A multi-week top ten hit. (#4 peak to date.) Guaranteed at least several more weeks in the top ten, and shows no signs of slowing down.

So, is Lady Gaga capable of turning just about anything into a hit?
Not even 10 million views yet, while Rihanna has sent multiple features to #1 (i.e. Love the Way You Lie and Live Your Live, even Run This Town went #2).
You forgot Marry the Night. That one didn't really work on her name alone despite 13 promo performances.
But "MTN" doesn't advance my point. "MTN" is a straightforward, feel-good club song. It still performed decently, reaching the Billboard top 40 and selling over 500,000 copies, but the examples in the OP show that Gaga is capable of making non-mainstream and/or more abstract fare successful.

This was before she became the biggest entertainer/woman/person in the world tho

But she couldn't make a mainstream song a hit despite a 3 month long promo campaign for it?
Ever heard of "logic"?
